About

Beween May and July, a tranquil, white sand beach in 永田いなか浜 (Nagata Inakahama) in Yakushima, Japan, plays host to nesting loggerhead sea turtles, which annually swim a great distance between Nagata and Baja. All loggerheads are endangered to extinction, a conservationist struggle.

Remembering

I remember the awe with which my young children, and my wife and I, witnessed the hatching of loggerhead sea turtles on a moonlit night at Huntington Beach in South Carolina. Our group made a 'human corridor' to help the struggling, fragile hatchlings make their way to the ocean.
